To go back prior to this book I had recently moved out to the Poconos, after earning my degree, in Illustration. The local newspaper advertise a competition. There was a needed for artist to illustrate a soon to be released book, "Women Who Made History in Monroe County." Immediately with a pen and paper in my hand I went off to research the area I was new too, my passion for art and history, re-establishing my illustration the community I eagerly engaged in perusing this project. After the drawing was submitted it had become the winning piece of artwork. The committee asked if I could create a colored version. With watercolors you now can see the version of watercolors.
The inspiration for the artwork stemmed from symbolism. The Mother represents the past while the daughter represents our future. In the daughters had she holds a bouquet of state flowers. The rural community gave me the opportunity to paint rustic background, while iconic symbols run as a border;; represent the people and events that had taken place in Monroe Counties History.
30 years later this book can be discovered in every library in Monroe county.
